Injury Time . . . with Jerome O'Connell

LIMERICK GAA clubs are to take part in a commemorative torch run from Carron to Thurles on the eve of the Munster senior hurling championship final. The Munster Council are organising the event as part of the 125 year anniversary.
The torch run starts in Carron in north Clare - the home of Michael Cusack - and will continue to Thurles on July 11.
The clubs of the county are asked to provide members over the duration of the run, which will pass through Clare, Limerick and Tipperary.

Unique hurling exhibition
A unique inter-county hurling exhibition game will take place on Thursday morning next. Na Piarsaigh GAA grounds in Caherdavin will be the venue at 11am on June 18 when the for the first time ever a hurling team representing both a combination of the regeneration areas of Limerick city will play a representative hurling match.
This team will be picked from all of the schools in both the Northside and Southside Regeneration areas and will compete against a selection from the primary schools in the Ennis Urban Area.
Each player on the Limerick team will receive a specially commissioned Limerick jersey to mark the occasion which will carry both the county crest and the Limerick regeneration logo as well as Limerick shorts and socks.
There will also be trophies and a cup on offer for the winners on the day.
“This is a great opportunity for these children to represent their city and county and also a fantastic opportunity for integration between children from both of Limerick’s regeneration communities,” said coach Adrian O’Sullivan.

Cream of underage hurling
THIS Sunday in Thurles the cream of underage hurling talent will represent Limerick in the Primary Game in hurling and camogie. Already in Ennis and Thurles 44 young primary school stars have represented Limerick in Gaelic Football and Ladies Football. This Sunday, Colin Ryan, son of TJ and Barry Nash, son of Mike will play on the hurling side. The Primary Game is now an integral part of Championship Sunday in Munster and rightly so.
To date in 2009, the exhibition games have been played at half time during the varying senior and junior games.
Again this Sunday, the young stars will take to the field at the intervals in the two main event.
There is no doubting that the occasion is huge for the stars of the future and perhaps they could be afforded more time on the field.
At all senior championship games to date, there is a period of inactivity between the two main games and a skills exhibition could be arranged.
The young players will no doubt rise to the occasion and it will give the attendance something to entertain them ahead of the arrival of the senior teams.

O’Sullivan Memorial Cup
HOSPITAL handball club have attracted five current and former senior champions to their Danny O’Sullivan Memorial Cup on the weekend of June 20-21.
Following its revival last year in a senior doubles format, the cream of Irelands’ crop return once more to the South Limerick region.
Eoin Kennedy will be hoping to retain the title he won last year.
The action gets underway at midday on Saturday June 21 with Eoin Kennedy and Robbie McCarthy jnr facing Eddie Burke and Mike Clifford.
Games will continue throughout the day with the semi finals pencilled in for 7pm.
The final is down for 1pm on the Sunday.
It is to be preceded by the final of a very successful intermediate tournament ran last week which saw Paddy Donovan and Ollie Cassidy battle through to face Kerry Hennessy and Ian Griffin in the final.
