Limerick 7s postponed

THE Limerick International Sevens Rugby tournament due to take place this Easter Weekend has been deferred until June.
A spokesman for the tournament organisers, Ubique Event Entertainment, said a combination of factors, including the cost of travel for international teams and fixture congestion nationally, led them, at the request of a number of participating clubs, to look to defer the event until June - the tournament will now take place on the weekend of June 26-28.
Organisers say that their decision to defer been taken following consultation and agreement with all those clubs who have entered and it should ensure a greater entry level than would be the case if the tournament was staged this weekend.
The spokesperson for Ubique Event Management said: “The idea behind the Limerick International Sevens is to provide a varied and competitive sevens tournament while allowing the participants to enjoy the social side of Limerick rugby hospitality.
“The numbers of clubs who expressed a desire to participate in such a tournament were such that we were extremely confident in putting on a highly-competitive tournament over this coming Easter weekend.
“However the combination of a number of factors have led us, at the request of a number of clubs, to look to defer the event until June of this year.”
